Another night in front of the television for our war hero. Another night of insomnia, depression and loneliness.
The flickering light, the subtle happy sounds hum in the background as he takes another gulp from the bottle. There - in the pixles dances the image and sounds of our fearless leader - reciting christian scripture in thinly veiled justification for even more tragedy, horror and bloodshed.
As the flag accends, and the jingoistic melodies build, our war hero's eyes fall upon the rifle he's been eyeing for several weeks. And in a moment of near clarity - he knows.
It's all fucking bullshit.
He signed on to give his life. And he didn't have to. He escaped with only the horrors of his own mind. But that's not enough. So he leans over. Reaches out and gently grabs hold of the weapon. Calmly places it in front of him. His thumb slides down the side of the barrel and into position on the trigger.
He places the end of the barrel in his mouth - and as the last refrain billows from the televison - he presses against the trigger, slowly adding more and more pressure until the mechanism gives way, the trigger is engaged and the weapon discharges into his mouth and out the back of his head.
His body hits the floor. The drink spills. The President goes to bed as certain of himself as he's ever been.
