If you've ever read the book or seen the movie "Fight Club" there's a scene where "Jack" beats the shit out of the pretty blonde guy and when "Tyler" asks WTF? he said he wanted just wanted to destroy something beautiful.

This project was a little like that for me. It was July 2007, I had just finished and released my solo bass CD Outre, and really needed a departure from that musical world. I wanted to stop making beauty and make something ugly. Ruiner Severhead became the outlet for that impulse.

While Outre was recorded over a few months in a prestigious studio with a name producer, The Jesus Fist Tapes was recorded in a few weeks in a second bedroom on a 1st generation mac mini with an mbox based ProTools LE rig and a bunch of boutique distortion boxes. It's the anti-Outre.

The Jesus Fist Tapes has always been available online for free. I played a few shows featuring Ruiner songs, and even made a short run of CDs to sell at shows.

Ruiner Severhead music was of a very specific time and place for me. It happened in a flash and flowed out very organically. And while I could create music that sounds like it, I don't think I could actually get back to that place again if I tried. And that's the beauty of music. It lasts long after it's inspiration has vanished.
